The Uplands Care Service

- Serving the older people of Stroud

Initiated in 1998, we are a well established community based, not-for-profit organisation which is committed to providing good intermediate day care support for older people in a friendly setting.  We hope that clients will enjoy their visits and look forward to their days at Uplands.

Before attending regularly, each client is invited to the All Saints’ Centre for an assessment and occasionally one of our staff may make a Home Visit to complete a more detailed assessment.

Staff are experienced in the care of older people, and suitably qualified and insured and our Service offers:

· A Good Day Out

· A friendly and caring environment which is flexible and not too rigidly organised

· A nutritious lunch and refreshments throughout the day

· Gentle exercise sessions with music

· Arts and crafts sessions (see Art Gallery)

· Reminiscence sessions

· Musical entertainment

· Music therapies

· Friendship and a listening ear

· An assisted bathing service using modern equipment and trained staff (extra £12)

· Our Mini Bus enables us to transport people to and from the Centre and provides spontaneous local outings

· We provide services irrespective of a user’s race, ethnicity, creed, gender or sexual orientation.

‘Intermediate’ Day Support is an affordable alternative to residential care or care in the home or it can be a combination of each.  Older people can benefit by having a day spent out in a social environment, but being cared for by appropriately trained staff, who are aware of the physical and social needs of older people.  We are able to provide many more services than a ‘Lunch Club’ type organisation and these include assisted bathing and reminiscence work.

Social Services (Adult Care), local hospitals, GPs and Community Nurses refer older people to us for care.  We also have families and individuals who contact us.  Our clients' conditions include general frailty associated with ageing, arthritis, diabetes,  stroke, early to moderate stage dementia, depression and the effects of social exclusion and respiratory conditions requiring the use of oxygenIn our provision of care we are committed to being a Dementia Friendly Community.

Prices and contracts

As we are not a drop in centre, all service users will have a contract outlining our terms and conditions and agreed fees.  The current cost is a very reasonable £42.00 per day, which includes transport, meals and all activities and being looked after by suitably qualified staff.  Bathing cost is £12.00.  Support for bathing and/or a midday meal can be arranged.  Occasionally special outings may incur additional costs, to be agreed in advance
